The primary function of an Earth Leakage Relay (ELR) is safety-related protecting against electrical faults; however, they can indirectly contribute to preventative maintenance in several ways:
- Early Detection of Faults: Help prevent minor faults from escalating that could cause equipment damage or pose safety hazards.
- Prevent Equipment Damage: Quickly disconnecting the power supply upon detecting a fault help’s prevent damage to equipment, thus reducing the need for costly repairs or replacements.
- Reducing Downtime: ELRs can minimize downtime by promptly isolating the faulty circuit, allowing maintenance personnel to address the issue efficiently. This reduces production losses and operational disruptions.
Utilising the Pre-alarm feature on an ELR provide a simple solution of implementing an early warning system into any application. The Pre-alarm will be configurable to operate at a certain threshold, triggering an internal relay that can easily be connected to an external lamp, alarm or other warning devices.
