Enhancing application safety with Auto-Reclosing Earth Leakage Relays

There are many applications where maintaining continuous power is critical, and for locations that are remote and unmanned, even more important when electrical faults occur – in particular, earth leakage.

It is therefore important to re-establish power as quickly as possible, and Earth Leakage Relays with an auto-reclosing operation will do this quickly and efficiently.

Their main purpose is to constantly monitor and detect earth leakage faults, trip in the event of a fault occurring, but then automatically re-connect the supply provided the fault has cleared. They can be preset to re-try after a set “number of attempts”. If the fault still exists, it will then remain tripped until manually reset.

The auto-reclosing ELR therefore has several key benefits:

> Cost savings:
   – Minimizes downtime of the application
   – Reduces the need for site visits/manual intervention
> Convenience:
   – Total flexibility – user has full control over settings and configuration
   – Single unit can be widely used in many applications
> Enhances safety:
   – Quickly detects and isolates earth leakage faults

   – Reduces the risk of electric shocks and fire hazards

In comparison to the cost risk of application downtime, disruption to services and maintenance, the auto-reclosing ELR provides a substantial cost saving, valuable device that overall, enhances the safety, reliability and efficiency of such applications.

The ELR01PN and ELR30PN have the option to be configured for auto-reclosing operation.
