The requirements for offering protection in High-Risk applications has until now, meant that electronic based Earth Leakage Relays with trip settings as low as 30mA were only available and that anything lower would require a mechanical device (i.e. RCD) to be installed.
There is now a New Range of Earth Leakage Relays available with one particular model (ELR01PN) that can be set below 30mA with the option of 6mA and 10mA trip settings. With applications becoming more complex and equipment generating stray leakage currents, these still pose a risk to users/personnel and it is therefore still necessary to take steps to protect against these currents. In addition, there are still requirements by international standards that require Earth Leakage protection to be set as low as 10mA in order to provide protection against electric shock.
High-risk application examples are:
- Socket outlets
- Rooms with baths or showers
- Sauna heating systems
- Electrical Installations such as Camping Sites
- School Classrooms
Model availability – Replace several existing product variants with just two models!
Two key models are available at launch ELR01PN and ELR30PN with the main difference being the trip setting options. The ELR01PN can be set from 6mA to 1A, The ELR30PN can be set from 30mA to 30A.
Preventing nuisance tripping – Important for high-risk applications!
Installing a product that can be set as low as 6 or 10mA can introduce the risk of nuisance tripping^ caused by natural leakage currents that may already exist in the application. Additionally, these may be in the form of harmonic and/or high frequency leakage currents. Incorporating a digital filter with selectable cut-off helps guarantee only genuine leakage currents are detected.
Utilising True RMS technology also ensures that distorted waveforms are analysed accurately.
^ Application should be analysed to ensure any natural leakage currents that exist are at least <25% of the actual trip setting.
Near Field Communication (NFC) Technology – A first for an Earth Leakage Relay in this market!
Offering the benefits of NFC allows the product to remain compact and thus eliminating the need for complicated DIP switches and other adjustments. All parameter settings on these models are carried out using an app installed on a compatible smartphone. The app is downloaded from Google play.
